Intellectual Property with Dr. Robert Fichter

We’re happy to invite you to an interactive lecture on patents, trademarks and designs, in other words on intellectual property joining forces with Marbella-based European and German patent, trademark and design attorney Dr. Robert Fichter and his firm JET IP.

Nowadays, intangible assets make up more than 80% of all enterprise value on the S&P 500. Some business only exist because of their intellectual property. IP is no longer a niche dealt with as a side business by legal departments, but a value generator. In today’s highly competitive environments, particularly startups, SMEs and solo inventors need to be aware of both, ways to generate their own IP as well as threats imposed by third party IP to their own business.

This event will start at 5:30pm - there will be a bar service during this event accepting payment only by card.

The 90 minutes lecture will cover the following topics:

1) What is Intellectual Property (IP)

- Setting the stage: a brief overview of the main IP rights: patents, trademarks, designs

- Expanding horizons: utility models, and other specialties

2) International IP

- The priority principle: what comes after a first filing (aka Spain, Europe, and beyond)

- Creating international IP portfolios: concepts and legal framework

3) Focus lecture on patents

- Patentability criteria: not everything made by man under the sun can be patented

- Software and AI: anything patentable here?

Dr. Robert Fichter is a European and German Patent, Trademark and Design attorney. He’s active in the field of Intellectual Property since 1996, first as an IP agent, then as a patent attorney in private practice, followed by a 15 years assignment as global Managing Director of an international IP law firm based out of Luxemburg, and since 2023 as CEO of his own firm JET IP. Beyond the regular national and international patent, trademark and design business, Robert has a focus on strategic IP consulting. No matter if you wish to create, internationally grow or otherwise acquire an IP portfolio, Robert’s advice will be valuable for you. Basically, Robert is a chemist, but has practiced a variety of different technological fields, including mechanical engineering, medical devices, and computer-implemented inventions.

In private life, Robert likes the pure power of motorcycles and airplanes. Guess you will now understand why his firm is called JET IP: Joining Efficiency and Trust.

At the same time Robert is an active ballroom dancer - this activity provides sufficient stimulation for the other side of his brain.
